I took a walk on the property today. I came across this dead and dried flower. I think this is the most beautiful flower for a cold winter day.

We took my nieces and nephew to Avery Island today - this is where they make Tabasco Sauce. We drove around Jungle Gardens and Bird City and spotted this alligator sunning himself on the bank.

I went for a hike with my niece and nephew today. We came across some different types of fungi but this one was the most interesting. Not sure what it is but I like the way it looked.

On our way to Lafayette to see family for Christmas we made a stop in Natchitoches, LA for some lunch. We decided to walk around a little and stopped in at Immaculate Conception Church. I got this photo of the statue on top of the church.

I got home from work today and Thomas was there with this little guy. He went to the Espanola Valley Humane Society and adopted him this afternoon. He is an Australian Cattle Dog Mix and looks a lot like Daisy.

I took a walk today at the Black Canyon Campground and I found this tiny snowman on a picnic table. Isn't he great. Whoever made this little guy sure put a smile on my face.

An Afternoon Visitor

Today I looked out the window to the back of the house. I saw this coyote out under the Russian Olive tree. I grabbed my camera and quietly walked out the front of the house and around to the back. I had to take the pictures hiding on the side of the house and holding the camera around the corner using the screen to take the picture.

I took a walk this evening and on my way home the sun was setting. I love the fiery sunset and the way the trees are silhouetted.

Pinyon Jay Habitat

I walked out the house this morning and a flock of Pinyon Jays just took off from the yard. So I went back inside and grabbed the camera and sat on the porch and took pictures of the birds enjoying the frozen pond. Not sure if the are migrating or if this is where they are staying for the winter.

This angel is one of my Hallmark Ornaments. She is Christkindl and she is part of the Christmas Visitors Series. I love the way she looks on the tree. I got all the Christmas decorations up today and I am ready for the holidays.

Leaves Turning Red

My neighbor's yard is mostly dead thanks to winter but I noticed this tree with leaves that were just beginning to change from green to red. I think this will be a beautiful tree when all the leaves have turned.

I was sitting on the porch this morning and I was watching all the birds. This one was just sitting under a bush and kept staring at me with those big bird eyes. I was lucky enough to get this picture.

Tonight I noticed the sky changing color so I grabbed my camera and headed outside. As I watched the sky transform and the sunset I kept taking pictures. This is the one I liked the most.

Today I was in Albuquerque with friends. We stopped by the Bosque School to see the stick people. This is an art project by Patrick Dougherty. He uses tree saplings to construct sculptures - it was an amazing display.

Mountain Bluebird

I was at the Randall Davey Audubon Center today and there were tons of birds. I got this picture of this beautiful bird. I think it is a Mountain Bluebird but I am not sure.

A Bird's Nest

This bird's nest is in our Rose of Sharon bush. I am just amazed at the construction and the way that the whole thing stays together through al the rain, snow and wind.

We have a few Russian Olive trees around the house. They are full of fruit right now and the birds and coyotes love them. I like the color and the way the tree looks when it is bare of leaves and full of fruit.

I was walking around St. John's College and took a short walk up the trail to Atalaya Mountain. I passed this old rusted truck cab. I think it is neat just sitting on the side of the trail.

For a few days now I have been seeing these birds around the property. There is a large flock occupying the trees around the house. I figured out that they are some type of European Starling. I think they are beautiful birds.

While on a walk today I came across this beautiful rock covered with lichen. I loved the contrast of the hard pinkish rock with the soft gray-green lichen.

I went for a walk today and while I was sitting on a log enjoying the beautiful day this bird landed in the juniper next to me. I figured out it is a Finch but I am not sure whether it is a House or Cassin's.

While walking downtown I passed a shop selling Red Chili Ristras and Cow Skulls. Both are pretty recognizable symbols of the Southwest. Maybe this could be a Santa Fe Postcard.

I took a walk around the property today and came across the lone dandelion. I did not see another one on the entire walk. I guess this is probably one of the last of the season since we have already had two snowfalls.

While shopping today I came across these bouquets of fall flowers. I decided the house could use some fall color so I brought home a few bunches and made this arrangement. I think it brings a little fall into the house.

Today the dog was playing around with this bug. I made the dog leave the bug alone and I realized it had a beautiful pattern on its back. So I got the camera and took a few pictures. After quite a bit of reasearch I found out it was a Leaf Footed Plant Bug.

Snow on the Mountain

Yesterday I noticed that the mountain had quite a bit of snow. So this morning I decided to take a drive up to the ski basin and see how much. There wasn't a huge amount but enough to decorate the trees and cover the ground. It was beautiful with the sun shining - picture perfect.

This is part of a statue at The Albuquerque Museum. It is called La Jornada and this is just the front part of the piece. It also has quite a few other pieces and is an impressive sculpture.

I stopped at Garden of the Gods pullout off of Hwy14. Usually I take pictures of the rock formations but today I took a walk a little north of the pullout to a gate and off to the right was this statue. After some research I found out this stature was by Warren Cullar and is called Sky Totem.

Well Fall is here, you can see it in the trees. There are golden trees all over Santa Fe and it is terrific. I love the change of the season and I love when that chill hits the air. My favorite time of the year.

This statue is at the Waxlander Gallery on Canyon Road. It is called 'Variation of One' by Shray. I liked the way it was behind the plants and lit by the sun.

This is a plant blooming in my neighbors garden. It looks like a coleus plant but I am not sure what kind and I have never seen a coleus bloom - so maybe it isn't a coleus at all.

Oregon State Capitol

We visited Salem, OR and made a stop by the Capitol. It was a nice building I enjoyed taking the tour. It is one of the newest state capitols in the country. Oregon had two building before this one but both of them burned and had to be rebuilt.

The Dunes that Inspired Dune

Today we went to the South Jetty Dunes and took a little walk. These dunes were the inspiration for Frank Herbert's Dune Series.

The Cobra Lily Plant

We saw this plant in Oregon while visiting the Darlingtonia State Natural Site in Florence. It is called Darlingtonia califonica. I thought it was a very interesting plant with even more interesting behaviors.

Today we visited Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint near Depoe Bay, OR and just watched the ocean. It was incredible to see the waves crashing against the rocks.

I'm in Lincoln City, OR and today we walked along the beach at Roads End State Recreation Site. We were able to see some tide pools due to low tide. I photographed this giant green anemone as well as some other animals.

Today we enjoyed Fort Stevens State Park and made our way down to the beach to see the Peter Iredale. It was incredible to see the ship sitting there and realize it has been there for over 100 years. That is Thomas looking at the ship.

Today we took a hike at L.L. "Stub" Stewart State Park in Buxton, OR. This picture was taken on the Hares Canyon Trail. We had a great time hiking in this park.

These yellow wildflowers are blooming all over the property right now. I love the bright yellow spread out all over. As usual I am unable to identify this particular flower. It looks like it could be in the daisy or sunflower family.

I took a walk downtown today and passed several walls with these stencil like graffiti images. Finally I stopped and took a picture of one. I don't mind graffiti art but these were on walls to people's houses and yards - not cool!

I was down on Canyon Road today and at the corner of Canyon Road and Paseo de Peralta is The Edge Gallery. They have these big sculptures of facial features. I think they are great.

Today I went for a walk that started at Cerro Gordo Park. I took some trails that lead down to the Santa Fe River. While walking the trails I came across this apple sitting on a stump.

Here in Santa Fe we don't have the amazing fall color changes that happen in the northeast but we do get a nice display - especially up in the mountains. Today while out walking I came across this tree that had changed to a reddish brown.

Green Chile

Today I was out at El Rancho de las Golondrinas and they had all these bushels of green chile. I couldn't help but take a picture. Anywhere you go in town right now you can smell them roasting green chile.
