View from the Blind

Today I visited Elena Gallegos Picnic Area and hiked the Nature Trail. Along the trail you encounter a bird viewing blind. This is a picture looking through the blind.

Ready to Rumble

These pieces of heavy equipment belong to our cousins. They are parked on the property and are used to maintain the road. I thought they looked like they were ready for something lined up like this. The red tractor is from McCormick-Deering.

Sanbusco Sculpture

I was running errands today and one of them was at Sanbusco Center. I came across this sculpture at one end of the parking lot.

Morning Bird Song

When I woke up this morning I could hear the birds outside singing. So I got my coffee and sat on the porch to listen to the morning bird songs. What a peaceful way to start the day.

Mardi Gras

Today is Mardi Gras and unfortunately I wasn't able to make it to Louisiana this year. I always loved the purple, gold and green colors of Mardi Gras. I had these beads lying around and decided that was what I needed for my picture of the day.

Sangre de Cristos in the Afternoon

During my afternoon walk I noticed the Sangre de Cristos with all these clouds hanging over them. I thought it was absolutely beautiful.

The Evening Sunset

It was a great evening tonight and I decided after work to sit on the porch and watch the sunset. It was a bit chilly but worth it to watch the beautiful show that the evening sky put on.

The Moon and The Sun

It was a very busy and weird day at work today and I needed to unwind afterwards. So I headed to Museum Hill and just walked around. It was a beautiful afternoon. I took this picture at The Museum of Spanish Colonial Art.

Wild West Action Figures

After work today I took a little walk along Canyon Road but I didn't follow my usual path of up and down the road - today I took a few side streets and passed by this window. I loved the little western action figures. But I noticed that they have a green tint to them - is this Herman Munster meets The Wild West.

Wagon Wheel and Skull

Walking downtown in Santa Fe always reveals interesting things. Today I came across the broken wagon wheel and deteriorating skull on the roof of a porch - is this only in Santa Fe? - maybe not!

The Wheels of the Train

After running errands I stopped by the railyard to take a walk. In the park I encountered these train wheels - I thought they made for interesting art in the park. When I began this post I looked up train wheels and found this link to The Wheels Museum - it looks interesting.

The Sun Going Down

I took a walk this evening and watched the sun going down. I liked the way the clouds were like veils over the sun and the junipers were silhouetted.

Camel Rock

I drove to Tesuque this morning and stopped and visited Camel Rock. I love the way it looks against the blue sky.

Garden of the Gods

I took a drive today down Hwy 14 (The Turquoise Trail) and I stopped at Garden of the Gods and took some pictures. I have always loved these rock formations.

The Eagle Takes Flight

I was walking around on Paseo and Canyon Road this afternoon. I passed the Gerald Peters Gallery and found this beautiful Eagle. I love the way it is surrounded by the branches and has the shadows behind it.

Snow-Capped Mountains

A couple of days ago we had some very cold weather that brought with it a lot of snow for the mountains. I took this picture today of the Snow-Capped Mountains from my backyard.

Valentine Cookie

Tonight we got together with friends for Valentine Cookie Night. We first got together for Christmas Cookie night in 2007 and again in 2008. We agreed that Valentine cookies needed to be made we had a great time.

Dust of Snow

We have had a few weeks of some very un-winter-like weather (warm temperatures, mega sunshine and no precipitation) until today. The temperatures are below freezing and it is very cloudy - the result - a lovely Dust of Snow.

Neutrals with Color

While walking in the downtown area today I came across this opened gate with the stone wall. I especially loved the stained glass window with its brilliant colors in contrast to the neutrals of the gate, wall and stucco.

A Clay Pot and A Garden Gate

Today we went to breakfast and then for a walk in downtown Santa Fe. We came across this gate with this clay pot in front of it. I love the simplicity of the pottery.

Old Adobe Porch

I took an afternoon walk down Canyon Road and stopped at the Historic Santa Fe Foundation - the office is at El Zaguán (James L. Johnson House, 545 Canyon Road). I love the way the plaster has come off of the adobe structure.

Rail Runner

While walking around the Rail Yard today I watched the Rail Runner pull into the station. The cars are very sleek and I can't wait to take a ride.

Pinus edulis

This is a picture of our Piñon tree in the front of our house. It was our very first Christmas tree and after Christmas we planted it outside - it is now 18 years old. And the Piñon is the state tree of New Mexico.

Old Jars

While walking in an arroyo today I encountered this pile of old jars. I don't think they are really all that old but I liked the rusted top on this mason jar.

Glass Girl Paperweight

I was taking pictures around the house today. I took this picture of the paperweight. I have three of these types of paperweights - they are made by Mats Jonasson.

Dry and Cracked

Early this winter we had quite a bit of snow but the last few weeks have been moisture free. I took this picture today of the dried, cracked soil around my house. Lets hope for moisture soon.

Van Patten's Mountain Camp

Today I took a hike in the Dripping Springs Natural Area and ended up at Van Patten's Mountain Camp. There are a few ruins there and this picture is a door to the old hotel.
