Railyard Labyrinth

I spent this morning walking around the railyard. I had not been to the kid's playground area since they completed it so I made my way to that area. One of the first things I noticed was this great labyrinth - I like how it blends in with all the other landscape and structures.

Flared Trumpet Vine

I spent the afternoon today walking around downtown. I came across this beautiful trumpet vine
growing on the side of a building. I loved the way the flowers were all flared out.

Cloud Formation Over the Sangre de Cristos

A Blooming Desert Willow

Butterfly on the Butterfly Bush

This morning while having my coffee on the porch I watched this butterfly as it moved from flower to flower on the butterfly bush - what a great little pollinator.

The Orb Weaver Returns

Last year we had an orb weaver that lived near one of the beams on our portal. Today I was sitting on a bench in the garden and noticed that an orb weaver is back - this time he choose to make his home on our covered bench.

Hummingbird Silhouette

Recently I put up a hummingbird feeder. I now have about five hummingbirds that frequent the garden. I liked this silhouetted picture especially the translucent wings.

Ballhead Waterleaf in Bloom

Back in March I took a picture of a plant in the garden that was still dead from the winter. It has not bloomed and I still think it is the plant I decided it was back in March - the Ballhead Waterleaf or Hydrophullum capitatum.

Yucca Pods

We had a great year for yucca blooms this spring but now at the end of summer all that is left are the pods. In a lot of ways I think the pods are just as beautiful as the flowers.

A Stack of Rocks

On a hike today I noticed this rock cairn from down the trail. I liked the way it was stacked and the yellow flowers growing at its base. Such a mundane thing but very beautiful.

Long-Flowered Gilly

I took a walk along a trail near my house today and came across the very beautifula and delicate looking flower. It took me a while before I was able to determine what kind of flower it was. After lots of searching on the internet I found out that it was a Long-Flowered Gilly or Ipomopsis longiflora and is a member of the Phlox family.

Tree of Stone

I made a trip to Petrified Forest National Park today. I enjoyed the drive through the park and made quite a few stops and took quite a few pictures. This tree is at the Long Logs section of the park.

It Was a Glorious Morning

This morning I was sitting on the porch drinking my coffee and enjoying the cool temperatures when I noticed that our Morning Glory was in full bloom. I liked the way the sun was hitting these two flowers so I quickly snapped a picture before the light changed.
