I want to take better pictures, I want to improve on the way I see things, I want to see my progress.
So I have decided to create a blog to post a picture a day. Hopefully by the end of the year I will have accomplished my goals . . . documenting the year with a picture a day and improving my photography skills.
I hope you enjoy!
Our garden continues to bloom and I just love walking around each day and discovering what new plants are blooming. Today I found this blue flax and I think this bloom is just perfect.
This afternoon I drove out to the La Cieneguilla Petroglyph Site and did a little hike. I was able to see quite a few petroglyphs in just a short walk. I was a little disappointed to see that someone had decided to add their modern versions in some places - thankfully it wasn't a lot.
Our garden continues to come alive. Each day something new blooms and adds color to the lingering winterscape. This California Poppy just seemed to glow.
Today I took a walk down the county road near my house. These tulips caught my eye - the bright colors against all the neutrals really made me stop and take a second look.
While out walking today I came across a yard with lots of dandelions. I started taking pictures and then realized there were tons of bees around. I got this picture and I love the way the pollen is stuck all over the pollinator.
Today we were out in Placitas and walked a little at Tunnel Springs. I came across this swing hanging in the tree. It just seemed so nostalgic. It was a wonderful Friday afternoon.
Today I did a little hike. I came across quite a few yucca. I liked the way this one looked with all the little curly strands. By the way the yucca is the New Mexico state flower.
Now that the snow has passed and the weather is warming up things are really blooming around here. Today I noticed that the Cherry Trees are covered in blooms. I am really hoping that we don't have any more freezes.
Today I was hiking and came upon this spot of color. At first I couldn't get a good shot of this butterfly because it kept moving. Finally it rested and I was lucky to capture a picture of this Painted Lady.
After the last couple of days of snowy weather today was absolutely gorgeous. It seems that Spring isn't ready to give up. This tulip caught my eyes with its bloom starting to peak out and is wavy leaves.
This morning I woke up to a winter wonderland. We got about two inches of snow yesterday afternoon and last night. Here are our beautiful peach blossoms covered with snow.
All day today it was cloudy, cold and rainy. By the afternoon it had started to snow. Here is a picture of a statue in the yard with a dusting of Spring Snow.
This afternoon I took a walk on the property. I crossed over the fence and walked past the arroyo and came upon an old fence post with all this rusted barbed wire. I just love how it looked.
With the recent snow and freeze this weekend I was surprised to find that most of my peach blossoms survived. I am happy about that and hope they make it - last year I didn't have any peaches because of a freeze.
This weekend we had snow in Santa Fe. Today the weather cleared and the sun was out - I snapped this picture of a daffodil blooming in my yard - I guess Spring is on its way.
We traveled north from Santa Fe today and we stopped in La Cueva to visit Salman Ranch. In the front of the store is this old mill - I only wish it was working.
I attended a continuing education class in Albuquerque today. When the class finished I decided to drive Hwy14 instead of I25. I ended up stopping in Golden and took this picture of the church and cemetery.
I wanted to get out and take pictures but wasn't sure where to go. I eventually decided to drive down Hwy14 and then down CR42 (Camino Los Abuelos) to Galisteo. Along the drive I stopped a few times to take pictures of the views.
Near my house is the State Penitentiary and next to the site is a large area where they keep buffalo. I have always wanted to stop and take pictures but the buffalo are usually too far away or blocked from view. Today I got lucky and found one out in the open.
Today I took a drive down Hwy14 (aka The Turquoise Trail) to take some pictures. I ended up stopping on the side of the road to get this picture of the road, mountains and sky.
Today we stopped at Sayre City Park. When you leave the park from the back entrance you are actually on Route 66. I saw this old building and thought it made a lovely photo.
We spent the weekend in Oklahoma and part of that time was at Lake Murray. The area is beautiful with lots of trails, plenty of water sports and beaches. We had a great time.
We drove up a curvy road in the Arbuckle Wilderness today and stopped at an overlook for Turner Falls. Near the parking area were this large area of these beautiful little yellow flowers.
Tonight we drove to Amarillo and on the way we stopped in Santa Rosa, NM for a bite to eat. We ended up on old Route 66 and ate at the Route 66 Restaurant.
I love traveling, I am an avid amateur photographer, I love being outdoors. I frequently go on what I call "Art Walks" - I like outdoor, public art and spend lots of time exploring Santa Fe looking for new pieces.
