Pink Poppy

I took a walk around the Capitol this morning and I came across this beautiful pink poppy. I have never seen a poppy this color. I have orange ones in my garden.

Klondike Cosmos

During a walk today I stumbled across a garden that was still blooming. They had these great orange cosmos - I just loved the color.

The Start of Fall Color

Here in Santa Fe we don't have the amazing fall color changes that happen in the northeast but we do get a nice display - especially up in the mountains. Today while out walking I came across this tree that had changed to a reddish brown.

Morada de la Conquistadora

This is the morada at El Rancho de las Golondrinas. I wasn't able to get a good picture when up near the morada so I took one from a lower trail.

Burro

I took this picture of a burro out at El Rancho de las Golondrinas. I thought he was pretty cute but the guy that was at the school house told us they bite.

A Santa Fe Gate

Walking around near Canyon Road I came across this beautiful wall and gate. This is pretty typical of the Santa Fe Style that you can find around the downtown area.

A Rainbow Day

As I was driving to an appointment today I had to pull over and get this picture. I loved the rainbow and clouds over the mountains.

Green Chile

Today I was out at El Rancho de las Golondrinas and they had all these bushels of green chile. I couldn't help but take a picture. Anywhere you go in town right now you can smell them roasting green chile.

Just Not Sure

I took this picture somewhere in the downtown area today. At first I thought it was a succulent but I am not so sure now. I did a lot of searching on the internet but haven't found anything to match yet.

Aloe Vera

We have this Aloe Vera plant at home and I see it every day and never took a picture. Today as I was watering it I noticed the way it was growing and the way the sun was hitting it.

Lips in Domingo Baca

Today we took a hike and came across these granite 'lips' perched atop this large rock formation. We started our hike at Elena Gallegos Picnic Area and continued on the Domingo Baca Trail. It was a beautiful day and we made our way up to the 'lips' - they are sitting at the top to the left in front of the cloud.

Golden Color in the Garden

We have had quite a bit of rain recently and that has brought the garden back to life. These California Poppies are blooming all over the yard - it is really nice have a second blooming.

You Spin Me 'Round

Today we spent the afternoon at the New Mexico State Fair. During the time we walked around the midway and I took pictures. The rides are so colorful and it is easy to get a good shot.

Solanum elaeagnifolium

Walking around the property today I noticed this weed blooming on the side of the house. I took a few pictures and looked it up - it turns out that it is in the nightshade family - Silverleaf Nightshade.

Flowing Water on the Windsor Trail

Today I drove up to the Ski Basin and took a short walk on the Windsor Trail. There was quite a bit of water in the creek and I found this area where the water was flowing over the rocks and got this great picture.

Colorful and Weathered

I took a walk today down Canyon Road and stopped by a favorite place I like to visit. This is the James L. Johnson home. It is home to the Historic Santa Fe Foundation. This chair and desk sit on the porch that overlooks their garden. I love the weathered look and the colors.

Small White Flowers

While on my afternoon walk I came across this garden with these beautiful white flowers. I have tried to find out what kind of flower this is but have not had any luck - if anyone knows please email me.

Altocumulus Clouds

While sitting on the porch having coffee this morning I noticed these beautiful clouds covering the sky. After a little research I found out they are called Altocumulus clouds.

Desfile de los Ninos (aka Pet Parade)

This morning I made my way to the Plaza for more Fiesta celebrations. Specifically I attended the Pet Parade. It has been over 12 years since I saw this event - and I had a great time seeing all the kids and their pets having fun.

Young Mariachi

Today on the Plaza there was plenty going on with the start of Fiesta. There was a Mariachi Band made up of a group of young adults. The quiet reflection on this guy's face caught my attention.

A Fiery End to Gloom

Tonight we attended the burning of Zozobra. This ritual is done to dispel all your gloom from the previous year. It is a very a cathartic experience.

A Bunch of Glory

While walking down Canyon Road I passed a gallery with a beautiful morning glory vine. I especially liked the way this group of flowers had grown together.

Jimson Weed

While out walking today I came across this huge plant with big blooms. As I got closer I realized that it was Jimson Weed - a very beautiful flower.

Budding Geraniums

This geranium is a plant that we have at the house. It has a couple of blooms already but I noticed that this one was just starting to bloom and I liked the way it looks.

Sphaeralcea grossulariifolia

Also known as gooseberryleaf globemallow. I took this picture while taking a walk on the Arroyo Chamiso trail today. I really liked the orange color of the flower.

V¡VA! Santa Fe

Today I spent my time downtown and at Fort Marcy to help Santa Fe celebrate its 400th birthday. This weekend kicked off a year long celebration. These ladies are part of Bailé Folklórico de Santa Fe (Mexican Folk Dance) and I had a great time watching them dance.

Juniper Berries

While on my afternoon walk around the property I noticed that the juniper bushes were covered in berries. I love the soft color of the berries.

Helianthus maximiliani

I took this picture during a walk today. I did a lot of research and I am still not sure if I identified this flower correctly. But it sure does come close to being Maximillian's Sunflower.

Muted Sunset

This evening I watched this sunset as it progressed. It never really got the usual bright colors that we get here in Santa Fe. It stayed soft and muted - and was just as beautiful.

Medusa

I stopped by Jackalope today and walked around and took pictures. I can always depend on this place to provide great photo opportunities. I really like this Medusa sculpture.
